Annotation Of The Guwen Sishengyun(Volume 1~4)

Guwen sishengyun,written by Xia Song and finished in the Northern Song Dynasty,is a compilation of Chinese ancient characters which were copied throughout the history.Since the book has been finished,different dynasties have different comments on it.Even when it comes to modern times,it still hasn't been paid much attention to.However,with the publication of great amount of unearthed documents,especially bamboo and silk documents of the Warring States,scholars have used copying ancient character forms to correctly interpret many difficult ancient characters.Henceforward,scholars are paying more and more attention to copying ancient character forms,including Guwen sishengyun.However,there are still no books fully focusing on annotating and explaining Guwen sishengyun.Based on former studies and unearthed ancient characters,this paper makes whole annotation on this book.Before annotation,we discuss about the background of finishing this book,and the name and editions of this book.After comparing all the different editions,we choose the one from the National Library collection as our original text,whose character forms are more accurate.And we choose the block-printed edition by Wang Qishu(year 1779)as reference edition.Guwen sishengyun has five volumes.Based on sequence of the volumes,this paper makes annotation on the first four volumes.To be specific,first,we focus on unearthed ancient characters.Then,we compare character forms in different editions and find the good and bad points in each edition,and find the source of every copying ancient character form.After clarifying these character forms,we use the knowledge of ancient Phonology to find out the relationship between copying ancient character forms and their radicals.At the end of annotation,we attach a table which contains typical unearthed ancient characters so as to clarify the relationship between copying ancient character forms with unearthed ones.In the process of annotation,we broadly absorb researching results in academia,and combine with the newest research findings in ancient Chinese characters academia.We put forward dozens of new interpretation and explanation of copying ancient characters,such as song ?,gong ?,hun ?,huan ?,shi ?,suo ?,li ? and so on.In the sixth part of this paper,we choose some typical research findings and elaborate our interpretation process.There are 500 thousands of characters in the body part of this paper.On the one hand,we summarize previous research findings.On the other hand,we have our own research results.We hope to provide a reliable annotation of Guwen sishengyun for academia.
