A Study On "Tan Jing Homemade" Art Forgery In Shanghai During The Era Of The Republic Of China

Chinese calligraphy and painting connoisseurship are veiled by mysteries,not only because of its historical thickness back to the 2nd century A.D.,but also the numerous kinds of thoughts,ideas,and works from the collectors and researchers in different countries and time periods.People are always used to reveal the mysteries from the perspective of the "real".In order to explore and understand the truth,both the "real" and the "faked" need to be investigated,which is also the requirement of"Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Connoisseurship" as a comprehensive integration.At present,though the academy has been involved in the study of the "faked",the relevant results are persistently insufficient.This article is an experiment that follows the logic of the "faked" and connects the "real" in three aspects listed as below.One center:it puts Tan Jing's organized forgery activities forward as the research focus,and identifies the typical forgery cases of calligraphy and painting.Two environmental dimensions:on the account of the social environment and the family environment of Tan Jing,it reveals the inevitability of Tan Jing's forgery group as the representative that appeared in the period of the Republic of China before the year of 1949.Three transformations:The first transformation appeared on one of the most important sectors of forgeries-the traditional fine artists whose roles had changed from literati to businessmen;the second one appeared on the scale and organizational form of forgeries-from individual workshops to professionally organized forgery companies;the third one was the changing customers of circulation channels-from local to overseas(foreign businessmen,overseas Chinese and foreign museums)buyers.Based on the context of social and cultural changes during the period of the Republic of China,the characteristics of the team created by Tan Jing were undoubtedly the epitome of its social context.Along with the rapid development of economy and society,the preciseness of calligraphy and painting authentication should also be updated.Tan Jing's organized forgery activities have established a barrier against the identification of modern painting and calligraphy,and presented the significant importance in terms of modern painting and calligraphy connoisseurship.
