Shiru DENG was a famous calligrapher and seal carver in the middle of the Qing Dynasty.This thesis focuses on studying Shiru DENG's calligraphy seal-cut,combing the formation of his style of calligraphy and seal-cut style,trying to explore the process of his seal-cut theory and the practice of seal-cut through Shiru DENG's social environment and artistic exchanges.This study distributes five chapters to carry out research.The first chapter considers it from Shiru DENG's life overview and art exchanges.The second chapter is to sort out Shiru DENG,the philosophy of seal-cut.The third chapter explores the calligraphy practice of Shiru DENG's “the seal started with calligraphy”.The fourth chapter explores the practice of seal cutting Shiru DENG's “the seal started with calligraphy”.The fifth chapter discusses the influence of Shiru DENG's “the seal started with calligraphy” on later generations.The logic of these five chapters interact as both cause and effect,exist side by side and play a part together.Shiru DENG's artistic achievements grew up in the academic atmosphere of Zhaojia in the Qing Dynasty.Studying on Shiru DENG's family history and art career which internal and external factors contributed to the formation of Shiru DENG's artistic style.For more than 30 years of travelling,Shiru DENG has made many good teachers and friends,they may include scholars,or the pioneer of gold and stone,inscriptions on ancient stone tablet,or professors,or disciples.These interactions have played a key role in the formation and promotion of Shiru DENG's calligraphy seal-cut artistic style.The process of the formation of the seal theory of Shiru DENGis a key node in the transition period of the history of Chinese seal theory.This paper systematically sorts out the seal concept of “the seal started with calligraphy”,puts the “calligraphy” as the main line of research in the formation of his seal style in “the seal started with calligraphy”.Shiru DENG is the practitioner of the seal theory of “the seal started with calligraphy”,He stands for “Practice first”,his seal style study from the Yuan Dynasty called “inside seal to seek seal” promote it to the Ming Dynasty called “the seal started with calligraphy”.Shiru DENG changed the mode of “use knife skills inherit the calligraphy writing skills” of the “inside seal to seek seal” to the practice stage of “use knife skills describe his own style of Chinese calligraphy of seal style”.From the category of seal style,the research of “knife skills” was promoted to the category of “calligraphy writing skills” research.His seal theory developed to Zhiqian ZHAO's concept of “outside seal to seek seal”,and further expanded his “own style of calligraphy writing” to bring the late Qing Dynasty of the era of creation of the seal-cut art.Shiru DENG's calligraphy practice of “the seal started with calligraphy”,firstly summarizes the reasons for his creation of Shiru DENG's style of writing and the concept of calligraphy;Secondly,studying on his practice of art,includes Shiru DENG's Zhuanshu,Lishu study and Kaishu,Xingshu study,and analyzes the characteristics of Shiru DENG's calligraphy writing style in different periods,and analyzes the influence of the conversion of calligraphy pen-use skills on the formation of his calligraphy writing style;summarizes the main achievements and main ideas of Shiru DENG's calligraphy style.The practice of Shiru DENG's “the seal started with calligraphy”,mainly studying on the practice of Shiru DENG's calligraphy in seal-cut and the analysis of different stages.Exploring the seal characteristics and styles of Shiru DENG's knife skills,writing skills,stamp skills at different stages.His knife skills learned from the master of Huizhe region,writing skills learned from the master of Qinghan stage,the seal style was changed from “straight and square” to “firm but grace”,and finally formed Shiru DENG's personal seal style “with calligraphy entry seal,reckon blank as inked”.Shiru DENG's achievements influence on calligraphy seal-cut directly affected DENG's descendants and disciples,and one of Shiru DENG's disciple,Shichen BAO,who writes books and sets up a theory for him,and widespread the “DENG School”.Another one of disciple,Rangzhi WU,who is the successor of “with calligraphy entry seal,the seal started with calligraphy”.This is not only reflected in the mind,but more important in the art works.These ultimately built the Shiru DENG as the pioneer of “Guan school”.As the forerunner of the transformation of the art practice of calligraphy seal-cut in the middle of Qing Dynasty,the practice of Shiru DENG's calligraphy seal-cut and the seal theory of “the seal started with calligraphy” has been an important academic space in the field of higher education and the exploration of contemporary art style up to now.
