In the field of modern Chinese,"you(?)" sentence has been widely studied in the field of linguistics by virtue of its relatively high frequency of use.As early as in "Ma Shi Wen Tong" on the use of "have",Lu Shuxiang in the "Chinese Grammar Outline" began to formally put forward the concept of "you(?)".Subsequently, many linguists in China have been studying this concept from various aspects, especially since the 1950 s,in particular in the 1980 s.Academic circles have made great progress in the study of "you" sentences, but given the differences in grammar systems and grammar viewpoints among different researchers, there are also varying views on the scope, nature, characteristics, meaning and structure2.This paper mainly analyzes the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic similarities and differences of the Chinese and Thai "you(?)" sentences from the perspective of typology, and discusses the functions and features of the "you(?)" sentences.Although Chinese and Thai are two isolated languages,as they both belong to the Sino-Tibetan family of languages, they also share many similarities. For example, the basic syntactic structures of Chinese and Thai are "subject+predicate+object".Although the Chinese and Thai "you(?)" sentences are very similar in basic syntactic structure, there are still many inconsistencies between them in semantics and pragmatics. Therefore it is worth further research and exploration,as this research not only has the significance of theoretical study, but also the value of practical application. This paper predominantly uses descriptive linguistics and contrastive analysis to explore the individuality and commonness of Chinese and Thai languages with the "you(?)" sentences and Thai "??"(you:?)sentence as the research object, the focus being on its research and analysis. The Chinese corpus involved in this paper comes from the previous case study of the "you" sentence, including some materials on Chinese Corpus website. The source of the Thai corpus is based on Thai National Corpus(TNC)Material from Thai National Corpus, and some manuscripts of national prizewinning woks of Thai fiction. This paper consists of eight chapters.Chapter One: Introduction, which describes the topic and meaning of this study, the research theory of summarizing related content, the ideas, methods and data sources of the research, and the introduction of the following chapters.Chapter Two: Definition and Universality of "you(?)" sentences in Semantic Typology. This chapter discusses the content of how a “you(?)sentence in 40 languages is defined and distinguished. The concrete content items include the summary of "you(?)" sentences, the classification and characteristics of "you(?)" sentences, and the grammatical relationship between "you(?)" sentences and Existential sentences.Chapter Three: The definition and identification of the Chinese and Thai "you(?)" sentences, mainly introducing the basic situation, grammatical features and classification of the Chinese and Thai "you(?)" sentences.Chapter Four: The Semantic Comparison between the Modern Chinese "you(?)" Sentences and the Thai Corresponding Sentences. This paper makes a semantic analysis of the Chinese and Thai "??"(you: ?)sentences, and then further classifies the semantic types so as to compare the similarities and differences between the two languages.Chapter Five: A Comparative Study of the Syntax of Chinese "you(?)" Sentences and the Thai Corresponding Sentences. This paper discusses the syntactic structure of the "you" sentences, which involves the features and structures of "you(?)",and then finds out the differences and similarities in structure between the two languages.Chapter Six: The Differences Between Modern Chinese "you(?)" Sentences and Thai Corresponding Sentence Patterns and Pragmatics. This paper makes a pragmatic analysis of the Chinese and Thai "you(?)" sentences, including the pragmatic features and functions of "you(?)" sentences, and summarizes the similarities and differences between the two languages on pragmatic issues.Chapter Seven and Chapter Eight: From the perspective of typology and cognitive linguistics,Chinese and Thai "you(?)" sentences are examined, and the language characteristics, language commonness and language implication of "you(?)" sentences are discussed. This then leads to the conclusion and prospect of the research content, including the summary of the research content and results, and a concluding discussion of the similarities and differences between "you" sentences in Chinese and the "??"(you:?)sentence in Thai in semantic, pragmatic and sentence-type aspects.
