A Study Of Zhu Zumou's Ci And Concept Of Ci Poetry

The late Qing Dynasty saw large numbers of great masters of Ci poetry with enormous quantity of Ci works and diverse artistic styles.Ci was developed greatly in its rhythm,collation and theory by the successive exploration of Ci masters.The“Four Great Masters”,Wang Pengyun,Zheng Wenzhuo,Zhu Zumou and Kuang Zhouyi,dominated late Qing Qynasty in the Ci field,among whom Wang Pengyun,the leader of Ci field,more or less affected the other three.Zhu Zumou succeeded Wang Pengyun,forwarding the development of Ci field in late Qing Dynasty.In view of literary ideological trend,Mr.Zhu brought “Wu Wenying Boom” to perfection due to his excellent collation level.By combining the genres of great masters in Northern Song and Southern Song Dynasty and inheriting their literary excellence,he integrated literary creation closely with the respectful genre movement of Ci style to achieve the objective of respecting Ci style in the creative practice.Meanwhile,Zhu Zumou's Ci thoughts were delivered in his comment on Ci and selected Ci collection works.The paper will study Zhu's creation and Ci thoughts more comprehensively in the next six chapters.In Chapter One,it is to discuss stages and artistic characteristics of Mr.Zhu's Ci works.Based on Mr.Zhu's activities in his whole life,the paper is to divide the stages of Zhu's Ci works in line with the ages and analyze them from several aspects,such as conception,style and pattern to highlight his Ci works' theme and stylistic characteristic in every stage.In Chapter Two,it is to probe into the inheritance of Mr.Zhu's Ci works on the literary excellence tradition,which is manifested in the realism of The Book of Songs in his Ci works and description of current events by metaphor and analogy to elaborate the realism to perfection.Meanwhile,he achieved the more profound internalization of the literary excellence tradition by transmitting the noble aspiration and unsullied patriotism of Qu Yuan and Chu Ci with the exploitation of Chu Ci images.He promoted the canonization process of the literary excellence tradition in the late Qing Dynasty in lyrics,ambition and critique.In Chapter Three,it is to probe into criticism of Mr.Zhu's Ci reviews and theletters.“Dreaming of the South — After Variously Inscribing the Great Masters' Ci Collected Works in My Dynasty” in “Jiang Cun's sayings”,characterized by the dual attributes of the tenet of literary creation and the literary criticism,was the literary creation as well as the Ci critical works of the reviewers.On the basis of analysis,the Ci thoughts,proved by the correspondences between Zhu and his friends and his preface and postscript on works,can be concluded approximately as the viewpoint of respectful genre of the Ci style,that of morphology creation and Ci stylistic criticism.In Chapter Four,it is to discuss the thoughts of Mr.Zhu's Qing Ci anthology entitled Ci Bie,a selection of his own ten Ci works.Ci Bie promoted the compile purpose of development of Ci theory and phonetics by the prudent attitude.As an important selected anthology in late Qing Dynasty displaying Zhu's great Ci theory and profound Ci thoughts,it features wide absorption of others' strong points and profound and perfect pursuit of circulation which,to some extent,supplements Qie Zhong Ci.Ci Bie was laid out in trichotomy,emphasizing the Ci style and phonetics and helping to discuss the attributes and characteristics of music and phonetics.The conception of Ci selection was revealed in the analysis of selected works in Ci Bie,sustaining great masters by Ci works and Ci works in history by itself.In Chapter Five,it is to probe into Mr.Zhu's status and influence in Ci field.Zhu Zumou,one of four great masters in late Qing Dynasty,was different from other three great masters in Ci proposal and artistic style.One can understand more explicitly Mr.Zhu's status and function among these four great masters by drawing the outline of their Ci activities and comparing their Ci works and Ci thoughts.By investigating the modern and contemporary great masters' evaluation on Zhu,one can understand generally the basic acceptation situation of Mr.Zhu in late generations.Supported by the investigation of the reasonability of Qian Zhonglian's evaluation and generalization that Mr.Zhu had achieved the prosperity of 1000-year Ci history,Zhu Zumou's influence on Ci poetry is to be comprehensively concluded...
