In the early 20 th century,China was in a period of sudden changes in the form of society from a long-term traditional society to a modern society, and the new historical itinerary required new social and cultural forms to match. The modern Chinese literature in the transition period is a concrete manifestation of this historical change in society in terms of cultural thoughts and artistic forms. As the most important and typical writer of this period,Lao She has both artistic originality and many typical characteristics of Chinese literature in the whole era.Lao She's novels reveal and reflect on the traditional culture of the nation, and the critique and inheritance of the national character from the cultural enlightenment spirit since the May Fourth Movement and the humanitarian ideological characteristics of the western realist literature are the overall style of his literary form.At the same time,Lao She,who has lived in the UK,was deeply influenced by the British realist literary master Charles Dickens. The writing of the Beijing city in his novels obviously benefited from Dickens' s literary inheritance and influence on the London city. The novels of Lao She also have the morphological characteristics of "urban novels".Judging from the basic and specific creative characteristics,Lao She is a typical "urban writer" whose novel creation has obvious urban characteristics.Lao She's novels have left the city of Beijing with a strong mark on the history of modern Chinese literature. As an ancient kingdom that not only plays an important role in China but throughout the East, the major transformation of this city in Beijing during this period can be seen as a microcosm of China's transition from ancient society to modern society.Lao She's writing of the city also shows the modernity of Chinese literature in this period. This thesis studies the urban writing in Lao She's novel creation, combines literary research with social history and cultural background, and tries to explore the modern meaning of Chinese literature contained in Lao She's novels.Lao She's novel creation is both literary and genetic, and has both inherited and rebellious developments in Chinese literary tradition.Based on the spirit of realism literature,Lao She reflected and transformed the lyric features in the Chinese literary tradition, and the urban novels he created made up for the lack of this literary type in the Chinese literary tradition. At the same time, through the writing of all levels of Beijing city in the historical period of Lao She's novels, this paper attempts to sort out the cultural characteristics of Beijing,a traditional Chinese city with a combination of tradition and modernity, and the cultural and ideological consciousness of the entire Chinese society in the relevant period.Relationship between.Through the writing of specific works in his works,he reveals the problems faced by the entire Chinese society during the transition period, and explores the complex characteristics of the influence of traditional culture on the historical process of Chinese society in a specific historical period. At the same time, the theorists also clearly realized that Lao She himself has considerable contradiction and complexity in his novel creation. This feature is also a national and historical issue shared by Chinese modern literature in the process of transformation.Through the reflection on the writing of the city in Lao She's novels, this theory finally focuses on a reflection on the transition period of modern Chinese literature, especially the period of the May Fourth New Literature.Due to the slow history and the imperfection of social form,Chinese modern literature does not have complete realism in its key transition period. At the same time, the modernity of Chinese literature is also in a state of incompleteness that has not yet been completed. This critical examination of modern Chinese literature has no important significance for summarizing the historical laws of the evolution of modern Chinese literature and the forward-looking and guiding nature of future literature development.
