Hoffman's Artistic Practice And Theoretical Research

Hans Hofmann(1880-1966)is one of the early American Abstract Expressionist artists in the last century,and one of the most important art theorists and educators in the 20 th century western art.His combination of innovative artistic styles of various schools and unique theory of art education made him cultivate more than half of the Abstract Expressionist painters in the United States at that time,and also exerted a profound influence and dissemination on the development of Western art since then.Because the domestic art circle still lacks the basic understanding of Hoffman,an artist,art theorist and art educator who has great influence in the world art history(the relevant Chinese research materials are scarce,even the artists in the art circle know little about Hoffman's art theory which once influenced the western world),this article through the translation and introduction of the contemporary Western Hoffman research literature.By means of formal analysis and other research methods,Hoffman's career,creative style and achievements in art education are sorted out and analyzed in detail.Especially,his original art theory is seldom introduced and analyzed by the domestic art circles at present,so as to preliminarily summarize Hoffman's successful experience and scientific value in the three fields of art creation,theory and education at the academic level.In order to make up for the weak links in the field of contemporary art research in China and provide reference for the development of contemporary art in China.This paper mainly studies from five parts.The first chapter describes the life and experience of Hans Hoffman,including his family background,study,visit,teaching and other learning and professional conditions,and analyzes the causes of the style of hoffman's works.The second chapter is through the study of the artistic style and artistic theory of hoffman's works,to interpret the encyclopedic compatible artistic style of hoffman's works,and to analyze the creative push and pull theory,media theory,natural theory and other important artistic thoughts contained in his artistic theory.In the third chapter,through the analysis of hoffman's teaching experience,it is found that hoffman prefers pragmatic educational theories and highly personalized teaching methods,and he has cultivated a group of abstract expressionist painters at that time through his theories and methods.The fourth chapter discusses the characteristics of hoffmann's art theory,its background and causes,including art theory and teaching theory.Push-pull theory,media theory,and the theory of natureis hoffman in the creation and teaching in order to make their own artistic characteristics is more clear,the teaching way is more direct and developed his theory of art,and its application in the teaching and the creation,the theory for students to learn abstract expressionism painting provides the help for the creation,also for the understanding and research hoffman himself provides an important reference.The fifth chapter is the study of rich artistic heritage left over from hoffman,discusses his abstract expressionist movement in the United States of plays a decisive role,he will be in Europe have traditional form of personalized art style and teaching experience of the successful transplantation in North America and it is also eventually lead to world cultural center from Paris to New York one of the history of the power.From the perspective of art history,Hoffman's contribution is comprehensive,multi-level and comprehensive.His artistic activities and actions have accelerated the development of American abstract expressionist art and helped the United States become the world art and culture center.Hoffman's success is related to his persistence of artistic ideals and his economic and environmental background.This paper hopes to explain the factors of Hoffman's success through research,so as to give enlightenment to the development of art and culture.
