Chinese classical novel and Baojuan(Precious Scrolls)had prominent convergence in the Ming and Qing dynasties while both of them were at the summit of their development.Based on the methodology of philology,the thesis conducts the research under perspective of narratology,history,folklore and communication.By comparing the similarities and differences between novel and Baojuan,the thesis discusses over the interactive relationship during their spread and furthermore,clarifies the developing track and rules of narrative literature of the Ming and Qing dynasties.The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 clarifies the research target: to collect and classify related academic research results since 20 th century and to clarify the topic's value,that is,to reveal the characteristics and rules of narrative literature through the comparison of the development track of novel and Baojuan.Chapter 2 mainly presents the development track of novel and Baojuan: from their origin,development to their time of prosperity.Meanwhile,by comparing their specific stage of development at the same period of time,the thesis draws the conclusion that novel and Baojuan had coincided pace in their development.Chapter 3 compares the cultural characteristics of novel and Baojuan and discusses over their similarities as narrative and folk literature.Meanwhile,their differences are analyzed in respect of context,author and reader.Chapter 4 discusses over Baojuan's acceptance of novel.Baojuan accepted novel by inheriting its story,choosing and editing its excerpt,taking in its fragment elements,and indirectly imitating its story.While editing novel's story,Baojuan processed its typical figures and stories and presented the story in a casual way with orgiastic oral delivery and Taoist features.In addition,it supplemented novel's shortcomings with grassroots' way of thinking in a creative way.Chapter 5 discusses Baojuan's influence on novel in respect of story proving and novel's wide spread.As a form of oral literature,Baojuan serves as an important link between the original novel and the grassroots readers.By retelling and repeating the novel,Baojuan plays a unique role in the popularization of the novel's plots and figures among common people as well as in the classicalization of the novel.
