Museum City

In the present urban chaos of the same face of lots of cities,and the lack of urban culture,cultural heritage with “years of value” and “historical traces” in the city,has been replaced by the new batch of buildings and functional planning.The “homogeneity” in contemporary urban architecture and urban culture has long replaced the original “historic” and “memorial” city,having become the city's super-real state.With respect to the current situation of the city,the thesis puts forward a city concept based on cultural heritage display-“museum city” as a response.Understanding the city as a museum is intended to see the city space as a “museum property place” that can be visited and read through the museum's perspective.The city is not only a constant physical function space,but also a system with“museum attributes” that can be edited.The parallelism between the museum and the city emphasizes the homogeneity between “the urban culture of the museum” and “the museum nature of the city space”,thus moving the dual opposition understanding of “city” and“museum city” towards the cultural system understanding of a “museum city”.As an effective means of utilizing cultural heritage,display is an effective way to pass on the cultural heritage on the basis of protection.Taking the urban space as a display place,it protects and disseminates the city's cultural heritage through the perspective of the museum attributes,and then constructs another research perspective to shape the image of urban culture.As an important part of urban culture,the uniqueness and difference of cultural heritages in each city constitute the city's unique urban culture.And many historical cities provide a reasonable argument for the thesis.By analyzing the types of cities with museum attributes,this study divides them into five types of museum cities: “Historical Relics”,“Urban Historical Style”,“Lots of Museum Institutions”,“Urban Memory and Events” and “Art Exhibition Activities”.And via the study of specific city examples,the thesis combs the central role played by the cultural heritage display in the process of urban cultural formation,and then summarizes effective methods of cultural heritage display in the city.This thesis attempts to put forward the specific design principles and strategies of the museum city.Based on the core purpose of cultural heritage inheritance,five specific principles of “protection”,“reuse”,“sustainability”,“publicity” and “difference” are put forward.At the level of concrete design strategy,through the construction orientation of “macro-urban form”,“mid-view urban space” and “micro-cultural display”,three specific design strategies of “old city heritage image”,“museum block” and “urban spatial narrative” are established.The thesis holds that the concept of museum city is of great significance to the construction and development of the city image,urban culture and urban public education in contemporary China.And the thesis expects to provide a useful reference for contemporary urban research through the systematical discussion of theoretical researchexample research-method research.
