The Moving Image Art was born in the mid-1960 s after the Second World War.It appeared almost along with Performance art,Conceptual art,Flux and Minimalist.There are two direct roots of Moving image art,which are mainly in two aspects: one is anti-commercial TV,represented by Bai Nanzhun,trying to show different personalization with mainstream TV media culture through the camera in the hands of artists.The other is the artists engaged in the Moving Image Art production,who was influenced by the diversified and interdisciplinary cultural movement and theory,such as Radicals,Performance art,Body art,Arte Povera,Pop art,Minimalism,Conceptual Art,Pioneer Music,Experimental Film,Contemporary Dance and Contemporary Drama.With the usage of computer digital image processing,digital editing,3D virtual,network and interactive technology since the 1970 s,Moving image art has developed into a visual image through conceptual art and performance to form a visual content of images.When it comes to 1980 s,Moving art became an art language that combines multiple image processing,installation environment and visual forms with electronic media as the core medium.In the 1990 s,the Moving Image Art has become a global phenomenon.Using the advantages of global context and local context,the artists have created a large number of Moving image works of various types with their own personal concepts.Nowadays,the Moving Image Art developed into a virtual immersive image art form.The Moving Image Art studied in this dissertation is a pioneering and experimental video art practice.The Moving Image Art has a visual critical function in the image itself,and could be counter-constructed and disintegrated within the commercial and popular images of movies,television,and advertisements during the formation of post-modernism era,which result post-modernism in a cultural critique usage,and finally forming an alternative and elite interpretation of the image of the mass,with obvious anti-narrative narrative style.The so-called anti-narrative,in fact,is still in narrative.It is an experimental exploration of narrative structure,narrative language,narrative time and space,etc.It realizes the function of narrative in a reverse way.By research on the social environment,related art with the ideology and theory,science and technology after the 1960 s,this dissertation attempts to sort out the clear historical context for the "anti-narrative nature of the Moving Image Art" from brewing to occurrence.In details it is: Firstly,examines the historical events and representative celebrities related to the development of the Moving Image Art after the 1960 s and the influence on the related art.Secondly,in-depth researches on the structure,theme,language,time and space and other elements of the Moving Image Art,and analyzes the relationship between these elements and anti-narrative.This dissertation consists of six parts:The introduction part mainly discusses on the research background,research purpose,research status and significance of this dissertation.The first part describes the origin and narrative function of “the Moving Image Art”.It mainly expresses that this contemporary form of video art is a revolt against mainstream commercial TV in the 1960 s,and it has been influenced by different art forms and artistic trends such as Experimental Films and Experimental Music,and has formed a new form of visual text in terms of narrative function.The second part describes the historical background of how “the anti-narrative of the Moving Image Art” comes from.This part analyses the influence of social environment,related art with ideological theory and science and technology on the development of the Moving Image Art after the 1960 s,and provides suitable conditions and space for the formation of an independent art form after that.By resisting the power of TV media and subverting the narrative of traditional movies,the Moving Image Art with anti-narrative was shown.The third part describes the basic form of the anti-narrative structure of the Moving Image Art.Generally speaking,on the one hand,it embodies in the non-linear narrative structure,on the other hand,it combines the hypertext narrative structure of non-linear narrative,and overthrows the traditional image narrative structure as a whole.The fourth part is an in-depth research on the theme of dynamic image art and the antinarrative in image language.The greatest change in the evolution of the times is the change of narrative theme.Therefore,the change of marginal groups and self-consciousness,the relationship between marginal groups' lives and social life,self-life and social life,and the combination of political and stylistic differences on concepts form the anti-hero and anti-grand narration theme of the Moving Image Art.Therefore,with the creative theme of the Moving Image Art as a clue,this part makes a thorough research on the morphology and characteristics of image language.Many classical works from the Moving Image Artists have become an important basis proof on studying the anti-narrative of the Moving Image Art.These artists focus on creating new image language and new coding methods,based on the experimental and pioneering images,and try to subvert the traditional image narrative language through the anti-narrative characteristics of the Moving Image Art.The fifth part is to analyze the performance of anti-narrative in the spatial-temporal dimension of the Moving Image Art.By analyzing on the time and space dimension in the Moving Image Art,this part explains the multi-angle and multi-level of the Moving Image Art in space,which not only deconstructs the expression means of traditional image narrative space-time,but also explores the possibility of developing new space-time dimension in the Moving Image Art by using new technology.The sixth part focuses on the significance of anti-narrative to the practice of the Moving Image Art creation,and the artistic reflection caused by it.
