The primary purpose of this thesis is to try to activate the dialogue between experimental image art and phenomenological philosophy.From the perspective of phenomenology,the self-problem and related main concepts such as self,the other,the world and timeliness are taken as the approach.Combined with specific image art creation cases and related philosophical resources,the French philosopher Emmanuel Levinas is taken as an example,based on the theory of otherness phenomenology(or philosophy of the other)in 1906-1995,this paper explores several frequently emerging motifs of image creation in contemporary image art.The motivation of the topic selection is directly related to the author's academic background,the outstanding contemporary art works in international film festivals and major exhibitions in recent years,and even the individual life experience.This paper examines and compares the experimental image works of Ming Wong(Singapore),Apichatpong Weerasethakul(Thailand),Jr(France),Agnes Valda(France),Koki Tanaka(Japan)and other artists from the perspective of relevant philosophical resources,and through the mutual argument and criticism between contemporary art works and philosophical theories,Call alive the relationship between the contemporary experimental image art and the individual's self-explanation,the relationship between self and others,the relationship between self and freedom,and the problem of modernity.Most of the artists studied mainly focus on the creation of experimental images,and most of their works directly refer to the important existential issues such as their own nature and otherness.The specific works focused on the motif of identity,self-construction,the relationship between self and others,the relationship between subject and the world,and even have thoughts and responses to regional conflicts,humanitarianism,post colonialism and other issues.The idea of the work can not only echo with the relevant philosophy,but also reflect the outstanding existing problems faced by individuals living in the modern life world and globalization.The artist has made a positive reflection and response to the problems from the way of contemporary art creation.The internal logic and concrete expression of the works are highly corresponding to the relevant philosophical resources,such as Levinas' theory of "otherness" and Heidegger's criticism of"technology".Through image analysis,comparative analysis,literature research,interdisciplinary research,descriptive research and other methods to explore the intersection and controversy of the two,the author's thinking about self,otherness,coexistence and other issues in the interpretation of the works is directly discussed,rather than simply repeating the philosophers' discussion.Specifically,in the contemporary image art creation,there are four kinds of image creation motifs with high possibility of thinking about the subject problem,namely,self-portrait image:To explore the creation possibility of a kind of direct film as the starting point,which can realize the subject's own interpretation of facts and show itself;The problem of the other:selfother image:the artistic practice of identity as the subject of the other in the mainstream culture in the context of modernity and globalization is explored by image;The problem of Subjectivity:heterodox image--an image practice that attempts to realize a Reenchantment and Deconstruction of human subjectivity as a rational being through image language;Common problem:community image--a kind of image art practice that can construct a new community and rebuild a common life in modern society.The research not only realizes the dialogue between the experimental image art and the philosophical theory,but also expresses the author's deep thinking about the existing problems of the individual in the contemporary cultural society,the relationship between the individual and the whole,and even the deep questions about the philosophy of the moving image art.
