The unique historical change and social transformation make Hong Kong a distinctive city that is deeply affected by the east civilization as well as the west.The two different civilization meet here and mix together,thus endow Hong Kong with particular social culture and special educational system.Study on HK is of great significance.However,it still lacks and needs us to explore and discover.This Research just focuses on this and sets seven chapters.Chapter 1 is Education in Hong Kong and mainly discusses development of education in HK and formation of educational institutions,explores reformation of secondary education and characteristics of higher education in HK in the 21st century.Chapter 2 is Formation of Colleges in HK and Transition of Admission System.This Chapter mainly talks about history transition of admission and examination system of universities and colleges in HK.Chapter 3 is Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination.Take several important subjects as examples and study on Category A,B as well as C of HKDSE.Chapter 4 is School-based Assessment of HKDSE.Study on SB A and its moderation of scores,different stakeholders'responsibilities.Chapter 5 is Admission System of Universities and Colleges in HK.Classify and summarize admission system of universities and colleges in HK.Chapter 6 is Comparative Study on UK,Taiwan,Macao and HK.Chapter 7 is Conclusion and Suggestion.Based on the above,our main findings are as follows:Firstly,HKDSE provide subjects of category A,B and C.The subjects are so various and the range is so wide.This is beneficial for student' personal choice and interests.The exam questions pay attention to complex thinking and multiple abilities.Among this,liberal study involves knowledge of different subjects and leads students to explore interdisciplinary issues and problems.Category B emphasizes application and guides students to realize how to use their knowledge in the career.Secondly,to ensure HKDSE's fairness and impartiality,the evaluation system adopt grade descriptor and utilize horizontal model.According to the boundary score,HKDSE's final grades are divided into 1-5 and 5*,5**.In addition,the setting of standards,the level descriptors as well as the grading mechanism are all very scientific and strict.They adopt the statistical moderation as well as expert judgment moderation to make the scores credible and valid.Thirdly,besides HKDSE,Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority(HKEAA)set the School-based Assessment(SBA).SBA' scores are evaluated by every subject's teacher in every high school.It is conducive to assess student' learning process as well as final outcome.To make SBA more comparable,HKEAA moderate the SBA scores based on HKDSE.HK' Education Bureau and HKEAA appoint administrators,coordinators to guide and supervise SBA.Fourthly,HKEAA set exam questions rigorously and recheck them carefully.HKEAA also carry out external vetting of examination papers and scripts,post-examination review,internal audit and risk monitoring,examination paper quality audit.Meanwhile,HKEAA positively connect HKDSE with examinations in other countries like U.S.A,UK,Germany,etc.HKDSE has already been converted with GCE A-Level,IELTS system.Furthermore,HKDSE is now admitted by mainland and Taiwan.Fifthly,HK's universities and colleges assess student's 4 core subjects and 2-3 elective subjects.Different majors require different subjects and grades.HK's Joint University Admissions System consider students' abilities comprehensively and allow them submit experiences and achievements in competitions or activities.Besides,HK also set school principal's nomination plan and provide special ways for applicants with disabilities.Based on this,we suggest our mainland's college entrance examination should enrich the types of subjects,optimize questions' setting,improve comprehensive quality assessment,try the score's moderation method,promote the mode of grading,design requirement of subjects more reasonably,connect positively with foreign countries'examinations,show preferential treatment to students with disabilities,etc.
