Etiquette stands at the core of traditional Chinese culture and is an important carrier of traditional Chinese moral education.It has played an important role in institutional norms,social enlightenment and cultural inheritance in the Chinese traditional society.Benevolence,respect,and harmony are the essence of etiquette which features coexistence of inheritance and development,commonness and difference,and constraint and self-consciousness.The etiquette education for college students is a social activity,in which,educators,based on etiquette standards that comply with the requirements of the development of the times,impart etiquette knowledge to college students in a purposeful,planned,and organized manner,with a view to improving etiquette qualities,fostering spirits of propriety and righteousness,enhancing civilized qualities,and cultivating qualified builders and reliable successors required by the development of socialist society with Chinese characteristics.Etiquette education for college students is conducive to inheriting and carrying forward the excellent traditional culture,to cultivating and practicing the core values of socialism,and to promoting the ideological and moral cultivation of college students.However,the status quo of etiquette education for college students in China is not optimistic with the following problems in general: some college students' low etiquette qualities;insufficient effective etiquette education fields;unenough inheritance Chinese traditional etiquette education;failure to play the teacher's error-correcting role and the missed best time to carry out etiquette education for the college students.The deconstruction and lack of traditional etiquette culture at the social,school,family,and individual levels is the major cause of these problems.To solve the problems existing in the current etiquette education for college students,we need to inherit and carry forward the Chinese excellent traditional etiquette culture.Chinese excellent traditional etiquette culture,fostering the unique spiritual world of the Chinese people with its high degree of continuity and stability,is the important source of nourishing the socialist core values,because of the common people's unconscious values in it.The Pre-Qin Confucian etiquette education thought is the source of the Chinese traditional etiquette culture.To carry out the college student etiquette education with Chinese characteristics,we need creative transformation and innovative development of the Pre-Qin Confucian etiquette education thought.The Pre-Qin Confucian etiquette education thought refers to an education thought system of etiquette institutions,etiquette rituals,and spirits of propriety and righteousness,which emerged in the Xia,Shang,and Zhou dynasties,and was founded by Confucius and developed by Mencius and Xunzi.It is a complete moral education theory system regarding
