"Made in China 2025" clearly states that China will enter the ranks of manufacturing power,and its position will clearly rise significantly in the global industrial division of labor and value chain by 2025.Over the years,China's equipment manufacturing industry has achieved rapid development through the means such as introduction of equipment and technology,multinational joint ventures and technology spillovers.It ranked first in the global manufacturing competitiveness in 2016.Although China is a big country in equipment manufacturing,it lacks independent brands and has high dependency on the key technologies stemmed from abroad.The situation is not fundamentally changed until now.It is particularly important to enhance the core competitiveness of China's equipment manufacturing industry in order to achieve sustainable development in global competition.In recent years,research on the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry has focused on micro-enterprises and improving the capability of independent innovation.However,the strength of the core competitiveness of a country's equipment manufacturing industry depends not only on its enterprise internal capabilities,but also on changes of value chain and industrial chain in the context of economic globalization which caused by the entry of transnational corporations.Theoretically,the theory and model of closed core competitiveness should be studied in depth under open conditions.Therefore,in order to provide a certain theoretical basis to improve the core competitiveness of China's equipment manufacturing industry,this paper studies the mechanism of value chain and industrial chain on the core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry from the perspective of meso-level and open economy.Taking the equipment manufacturing industry as the research object,this paper makes theoretical and empirical analysis of the relationship of the value chain positioning,upstream and downstream interaction of the industrial chain,and the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry.The paper follows the approach of "theoretical analysis-proposed hypothesis-empirical test-policy suggestion",focuses on testing the following three propositions: firstly,the equipment manufacturing industry in the value chain at different positions affect the formation of core competitiveness.That is to say,equipment manufacturing industry at the high-end of the value chain can promote the formation of the core competitiveness and at the low-end of the value chain may hinder the formation of core competitiveness.Secondly,high-matching degree between the equipment manufacturing industry and the lower-stream industry of the industrial chain can promote the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry.Thirdly,both the positioning of equipment manufacturing value chain and the matching degree of the lower-stream industry of the industry chain influence the formation of core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry.To test the above propositions,first of all,the components of the core competitiveness of China's equipment manufacturing industry,namely technological innovation capabilities,market capabilities,and industrial organization coordination capabilities need to be identified through the analysis of the value chain of China's equipment manufacturing industry and the global value network.In the second stage of test,the paper analyzes the influence mechanism of chain positioning on the core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry and presents the model of the relationship between the value chain positioning and the core competitiveness.The factors such as industrial concentration,R&D input,unit labor cost,labor quality and FDI input are taken as control variables of the model.Then it tests the effect of value chain positioning on the formation of core competitiveness through the fixed effect model.In the third stage,the influence mechanism of the industrial chain interaction on the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry is analyzed,and the relational model between the matching degree of industrial chain and the core competitiveness is presented.Then the effect of the upstream and downstream interaction of the industrial chain on the formation of core competitiveness through the random effects model is tested.Finally,the paper proposes a triadic model through the analysis of the effect of the value chain positioning and the matching degree of industrial chain acting on the core competitiveness at the same time.Then it is verified by a fixed effect model.Based on the above tests and combined with the development status of equipment manufacturing in China,it puts forward relevant policy recommendations to enhance the core competitiveness of China's equipment manufacturing industry.Research conclusions: first,considering the effect of value chain positioning on the core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry separately,different position of the equipment manufacturing industry in the global value chain has different influence on the formation of core competitiveness.The equipment manufacturing enterprises in the high-end of the value chain promote more formation of core competitiveness than the equipment manufacturing enterprises in the horizontal industry,and pass the significance test of the 1% statistical level.The equipment manufacturing enterprises at the high-end of the value chain have promoted more formation of core competitiveness than the equipment manufacturing enterprises at the low-end of the value chain.It has passed the significance test on the 5% statistical level.Second,when designing the matching index of equipment manufacturing industry and downstream industry,the smaller the matching degree is,the higher the matching degree of equipment manufacturing industry and downstream industry is.Therefore,considering the effect of the industrial chain interaction on the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry separately,a high matching degree of the downstream industry can promote the formation of core competitiveness and has passed the significant test on the 10% statistical level.Third,considering the impact of value chain positioning and industry chain on core competitiveness at the same time,the result has passed the significant test on the 1% statistical level.The conclusion is that the lower matching degree,the less likely the core competitiveness will be when equipment manufacturing enterprises are at the low-end of the value chain.Fourth,while reaching the main conclusions of this paper,the conclusion of the effect of control variables on core competitiveness is as follows: the increase of industrial concentration,R&D input intensity,FDI input,and unit labor cost can promote the core competitiveness.It has passed the significant test on the 1% statistical level.The relationship of labor quality and the core competitiveness of China's equipment manufacturing industry is reversely connected.The result has passed the significant test on the 1% statistical level.It indicates that the quality of China's equipment manufacturing labor force does not improve the core competitiveness effect.The innovation of the paper: firstly,this paper puts forward three important corollaries based on the theory of core competitiveness,value chain and industrial chain.First,the value chain positioning affects the formation of the core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry.Second,the industrial chain interaction affects the formation of core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry.Third,the value chain positioning and the industrial chain interaction affect the formation of the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry at the same time.On the basis of the three corollaries,it puts forward the model of the relationship between the value chain,the industrial chain and core competitiveness.Secondly,on the equipment manufacturing industry level,through empirical tests,impacts of the value chain and the industrial chain respectively and simultaneously on the core competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry are collected.It advises that it is necessary to improve the value chain positioning and the matching degree of the industry chain at the same time to improve the core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry.In order to improve the core competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry,it is necessary to increase the value chain positioning and the matching degree of the industrial chain at the same time,which provides a certain empirical reference for the development of China's equipment manufacturing industry.
