The implementation of "the Belt and Road Initiatives" provides China's high-tech firms with policy support,financial support,cultural support and favorable trade environment for their going global,and also also brings multiple opportunities for firms' development.Meanwhile,the promotion of "Internet Plus Initiative" accelerates the deep combination of modern manufacturing with mobile Internet,cloud computing,big data and the Internet of Things,which greatly boosts the upgrade of China's high technology industries.The primary task of realizing industrial transformation and upgrading is to improve firms' capability of independent innovation,strengthen R&D activities of the core technologies and enhance high-tech firms' status as the dominant innovation subjects.In the dynamic market environment,high-tech firms should make full use of existing technology to ensure the revenue,and also need to constantly explore new technology to obtain breakthroughs.Knowledge base,the key innovative resource of high-tech firms,is often regarded as basic elements of technology innovation.Selective combinations of knowledge from different technology fields reflect high-tech firms' differential innovation strategies,and have an important effect on the technology innovation performance.Therefore,this paper focuses on the impact of knowledge network features and knowledge flow on high-tech firms' dualinnovation performance.The main contents include the following five parts:1.The theoretical model construction of knowledge network features on high-tech firms' innovation performanceFrom the view of knowledge integration and configuration capability,this paper proposed the influence paths of relational features and cohesive features on high-tech firms' dual-innovation performance.The dynamics and complexity of technology cause the strategies of internal knowledge utilization and new knowledge acquisition to be affected by the external environment.Thereby,this paper further discussed the influence paths of innovation knowledge flow and standard knowledge flow which act as contingent roles on high-tech firms' dual-innovation performance.2.The direct effect of knowledge network features on high-tech firms' dualinnovation performanceThis paper used the data from Chinese automobile industry to illustrate the construction process of knowledge network,and calculated the relational and cohesive features to describe the evolution of knowledge network.As the knowledge network features reflect the current capability of knowledge integration and configuration which would influence the future decisions of technology innovation,this paper further analyzed the direct effect of knowledge network relational and cohesive features on high-tech firms' dual-innovation performance,and proposed the hypotheses.3.The contingent role of innovation knowledge flowHigh-tech firms benefit from the incoming knowledge flows,but also have to bear the risks brought by outgoing knowledge flows.Thus this paper used the game theory to analyze the importance of innovation knowledge flows in the horizontal and vertical R&D collaboration.As innovation knowledge flows provided high-tech firms with more choices and ideas for the knowledge integration and configuration,this paper discussed the contingent role of innovation knowledge flow in the relationship between the knowledge network features and the dual-innovation performance,and proposed the hypotheses.4.The contingent role of standard knowledge flowBased on the multistage flow model of standard knowledge,this paper designed an efficient flow path of standard knowledge for the aim of improving firms' technology influence and took BYD as an example to verify the proposed flow path.As standard knowledge flow is an effective way for the diffusion of innovation achievements,it may also cause the re-position of the firms' R&D activities and influence the decisions of technology innovation.Thus,this paper discussed the contingent role of standard knowledge flow in the relationship between the knowledge network features and the dual-innovation performance,and proposed the hypotheses.5.Empirical testThis paper used the data from Chinese automobile industry to empirically test the hypotheses.It is found that the relational breadth of knowledge network has an inverted-U shaped relationship with the exploitative innovation performance and negatively affects the exploratory innovation performance.The relationship strength of knowledge network positively affects the exploitative innovation performance and negatively affects the exploratory innovation performance.The local cohesion of knowledge network has an inverted-U shaped relationship with the exploitative and exploratory innovation performance.The global cohesion of knowledge network positively affects the exploitative innovation performance and has an inverted-U shaped relationship with the exploratory innovation performance.Meanwhile,the innovation knowledge flow strengthens the negative relationship between the relational breadth and the exploratory innovation performance,and weakens the positive relationship between the relational strength and the exploitative innovation performance.It also weakens the inverted-U shaped relationship between the global cohesion and the exploratory innovation performance,but its moderating role in the inverted-U shaped relationship between the local cohesion and the exploitative innovation performance is not significant.Finally,the standard knowledge flow strengthens the positive relationship between the relational breadth and the exploitative innovation performance,and strengthens the positive relationship between the relational strength and the exploitative innovation performance.It also weakens the positive relationship between the local cohesion and the exploitative innovation performance,and strengthens the inverted-U shaped relationship between the global cohesion and the exploratory innovation performance.Based on the theories of knowledge base,dynamic capability,collaborative innovation and standard economics,this study established a theoretical framework of effects of high-tech firms' knowledge network features on the dual-innovation performance by considering the contingent roles of the innovation knowledge flow and the standard knowledge flow,and utilized sample data to empirically test the theoretical framework.Theoretically,the present research enriches and extents the literatue on the relationship between knowledge base and innovation performance.In practice,the present research helps to achieve efficient knowledge combination,and encourages to strengthen the dynamic capability through various ways of knowledge flows in order to improve the efficiency of technology innovation and accelerate the pace of the industrial restructuring and upgrading.
