Abusive supervision is understood as the subordinates perceptions of the extent to which their supervisors show hostile verbal and nonverbal behaviors.Investigating the causes and consequences of abusive supervision is vital for understanding the welfare of employees and their organizations. Most of the studies in recent past have focused on the well-established relationship between the abusive supervision, its antecedents, and consequences based on the data from developed countries. However, studying the impacts of cultural value, cognitive factor and psychological response of employees from developing countries are critical to understanding the relationship between abusive supervision and its subtle repercussions. The repercussion is expected for the employee's overall well-being at the workplace and its spillover to their intimate relationship at home.In this context, our study established a negative relationship between abusive supervision and employee creativity. The established relationship is found to be mediated by creative self-efficacy as a psychological cognitive factor. We also noted that the relationship and the mediating effect is moderated to be weaker by the high power distance orientation.Further, under the light of previously studied spillover of employees' workplace experience to outside the organizations,we focused on a subtler construct as emotional abuse as a repercussion of abusive supervision. We established a positive relationship between the subordinates' experience of abusive supervision and their perpetration of emotional abuse towards their intimate partner. Our study confirms that the relationship established can be mediated by the surface acting and emotional burnout experienced by the subordinates.Importantly,we found that gender and age of the subordinates moderate the established relationship between abusive supervision and emotional abuse. For the purpose of studying the repercussion of abusive supervision within and beyond the organizations,we collected the data from the hundreds of Nepalese personnel working in government and private organizations. To explain the findings of our study in the context of existing cultural values in developing countries such as in Nepal,we explored the theories of conservation of resources, social cognition, displaced aggression and prevalence of traditionally sanctioned patriarchy in the society. Our research has several implications for supervisors, subordinates, organizations, and society,in general.
