Analysis On The Business Efficiency Of Chinese Agricultural Products Wholesale Market

It is well known that agricultural products wholesale market(simplized as APWM)is the bridge and link between production and consumption,occupying an important position in China's agricultural product circulation system.Nearly 70%of the agricultural products entry the terminal consumption market through wholesale market.With the agricultural product quality safety problems becoming increasingly prominent,price fluctuation,new circulation types and changing of agricultural production,the traditional circulation pattern appears flat and level of circulation reducing.All these have brought serious challenges to the development of China's APWM,including whether the wholesale market can better dock with the up-downstream in industry chain,the traditional trading mode can adapt to the rapid development of information technology and electronic commerce situation,and the expansion of the scale of business model can stand foothold in the market competition,etc.Therefore,it is a major issue to take the necessary measures to improve the efficiency of APWM.To improve the efficiency of the APWM,based on the summary of the existing literature and the author's practical work experience,this paper introduces detaily the basic situation of the development of China's APWM.Using economics,management,statistics and other related methods,this paper construes an DEA analysis model using the total investment,trading area and the total number of employees as the input index,and trading volume,profit and booth rental rate as output to measure the business efficiency of China's APWM.It is pointed out that this research studies the business efficiency of APWM from the angle of resources allocation not supply chain.The sample data comes from 320 copies collected by All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives issuing the"national agricultural products wholesale market survey questionnaire" from January to April 2014.The questionnaire is filled by the manager of the APWM,and finally this paper sorted out 122 samples.This paper finds that most of APWM's in China technical efficiency is not high,and the pure technical efficiency is low but the scale efficiency is high.This paper analyzes the business efficiency from six angles which are regional,stage,size,types of registration,location and class.The conclusion is that there is a big difference between the business efficiency of APWM in China.Overall,the business efficiency of APWM in eastern region is higher than in central and western regions,in stable development period higher than the start-up period and development period,in urban higher than the others,and the efficiency of professional APWM is higher than comprehensive APWM.The projection analysis of the inefficient APWM shows that the input redundancy is the key to low efficiency.Using four representative APWM cases,this paper analyses the factors affecting the business efficiency of APWM and proposes some improvement measures.The technical efficient market should strengthen the application of e-information system and expand the size of the market.The scale inefficient market should plan well,strengthen the market infrastructure and enhance the market services.The pure technical inefficient market should strengthen services for merchants in the business concept and applicate new technology.The inefficient market should put attracting merchants as a priority in order to live up the market.Finally,by using the experience of domestic and foreign APWM,this paper proposes that in order to improve the business efficiency,we should innovate the transactions mode,promote the construction of information systems and construct some nonprofit APWMs.
