| We introduce a new model for multi-lane highway traffic, based on stochastic partial differential equations. We prove that the model is well-posed; has one and only one solution. We prove the existence constructively and thus derive a numerical scheme to compute the solution.;We examine measured traffic data, and introduce a new method and algorithm to estimate the fundamental diagram, an integral part of almost every macroscopic highway traffic model. |
