Abstract/Summary:
By reviewing the theoretical discussion on love and intimacy in the western sociological thought, the author has constructed a four-folded typology to investigate the image of love as a way of personal enlightenment as inscribed in the contemporary romance novel of Hong Kong.;Findings show that the understanding and expectation about love relation varies with the development of the cultural logic in different social background. "Seductive Love", as one of the emerging construction in the local novels, was found as a possibility to break the unresolved labyrinth on this issue.;The construction of such a typology of love can also provide deeper understanding on the argument in the local cultural studies. Whether the main current of contemporary Hong Kong literature has fallen into the scenario of "no-love" or "narcissism", is just an outward representation of a more sophisticated way of pursuit.
