Abstract/Summary:
This study aims to initiate and develop the applicability of Lewin's field theory to research on the acculturation of young new arrivals in Hong Kong, and to explore both the function and significance of the co-construction of life space topological diagrams in understanding and analyzing different acculturation styles. Integrating Lewin's field theory and Berry's framework of acculturation style on the theoretical plane, this study employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches in terms of method to delve progressively into four research questions. (1) What are the features of young new arrivals' acculturation styles in Hong Kong? (2) Are the results obtained by the two different methodological approaches consistent? (3) To what extent did the subjects agree with the two sets of results how did they perceive the two respective methodological approaches? (4) Concerning the acculturation of young new arrivals in Hong Kong, what are the new findings made possible by co-constructing the life space topological diagrams? (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
