Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine the teaching methods used by Jesus Christ in the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) to see if He used differentiated instruction. Specifically, the researcher sought to answer each of the following research questions: (1) What were the teaching methodologies of Jesus' contemporary culture? (2) What were the teaching methodologies used by Jesus Christ? (3) To what extent did Jesus use differentiated instruction as part of his teaching methodology?;The actual research is handled in three stages. The first stage will attempt to analyze educational thought from 30 B.C. to 30 A.D. This stage should answer the question, "What were the teaching methodologies of Jesus' contemporary culture? To accomplish this, Greek, Roman, and Jewish educational methodology will be researched in order to develop a list of educational methods practiced by these educational groups.;The second stage will analyze the actual teaching methodology of Jesus Christ. This stage will seek to answer the question, "What were the teaching methodologies used by Jesus Christ?" A content analysis will be used to make a systematic examination of the contents of Jesus' teaching methodology in the gospels.;The third stage will endeavor to answer the question, "To what extent did Jesus use differentiated instruction as part of his teaching methodology"? To accomplish this purpose, current views of education methodology, specifically differentiation, will be analyzed in a comparison analysis with Jesus' teaching methodologies.;The literature review will be conducted through reading and examining books and references that relate to the research study. Literature on the topic of differentiation in the culture today will be used and researched to gain a thorough understanding of the description and use of differentiation as a teaching method. Literature will be reviewed to see what basis there is to call Jesus a teacher or "Master Teacher" as is often the designation. The educational methodology of Greek, Roman, and Jewish cultures will be studied to gain a proper understanding of the types of teaching methods used during the time frame of 30 B.C. to 30 A.D.
