Abstract/Summary:
The extent that physical education portfolio were used in the hiring process including the key artifacts of the physical education portfolio that principals deemed important when making a hiring decision. Forty-six principals whose school district hired a physical education teacher in 2005--2007 completed the survey. Results show that principals reviewed portfolios submitted during the hiring process. Principals identified 6 key artifacts for a physical education teacher candidate's portfolio. Principals provided agreement with individual artifacts in relation to the NASPE initial physical education teaching standards. Recommendations for teacher preparation programs and local school districts to modify portfolios to meet the needs of school district were advised.
