The research involved the collection of data through the practice of recognition of prior learning from a men's center located in Mesa, Arizona. The research was conducted using a qualitative exploratory case study methodology. A questionnaire and job profile overlay was administered to obtain recognition of prior learning activity from a sample of Arizona-based homeless shelter residents who needed immediate, stable, employment. The research inquired about the specific issues which pertained to the homeless residents and the relationship, if any, these had to the recognition of prior learning and increased employability. The interview involved the use of a job profile tool and a job seeker profile to determine the residents' skills, knowledge, and ability compared to suitable job descriptions. The data from the questionnaire and tool provided insights into the issues surrounding the use, or non-use, of recognition of prior learning for the job seekers with the intention of creating a more effective human capital utilization practice for employment. The research gauged the organizational interest in becoming involved with homeless job seekers who demonstrated usable skills and abilities through the recognition of prior learning. Research indicated that there were increased employment opportunities with the recognition of prior learning especially from the homeless job seeker with little or no post-high school compulsory formal education and training. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Prior learning, Recognition, Job seeker, Exploratory case study, Homeless job, Skills, Employment the research | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
