Abstract/Summary:
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 focused on the use of scientifically researched educational strategies to help students become better in academic areas. Teachers and school leaders are held accountable for ensuring that students can read. This study looked at the relationship between Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) and achievement scores, such as the CRCT, to determine if SSR would lead to increased CRCT scores. The results from this study showed a statistical difference between scores for the 2008 CRCT and the 2009 CRCT. In addition, the results from this study showed teachers felt that reading increased academic achievement scores. The information provided in this study will assist the study's school system in their efforts to identify educational strategies to increase achievement scores.
