Abstract/Summary:
This case study investigated the following questions: (1) How are character education initiatives implemented at Magowan School? (2) How effective are these initiatives in reducing student discipline incidents? (3) What is the impact of these initiatives on student achievement? (4) How could these initiatives be improved to align with best practices? (5) How could other schools improve their character education initiatives based on the experiences of the Magowan learning community? Several initiatives are in place at Magowan that are aligned with best practices in social-emotional learning. These initiatives positively impacted student behavior at Magowan, but not student achievement. Additional research is needed to determine if the Magowan character education program could positively impact student behavior and achievement in other schools.
