Abstract/Summary:
This study addressed a gap in current literature relative to the massage therapy profession. This study investigated the problem that massage therapists were leaving the profession while the demand for alternative or complementary therapies was going up. Burnout was thought to be an issue that effected the duration of massage therapists serving the profession, but no scientifically quantifiable information existed. This research study measured the extent to which burnout was an occupational challenge for the licensed massage therapist. Once this information was determined, this study looked at the relationship of burnout to a proactive coping strategy and additional participant variables. This study may provide an excellent base from which future research could be conducted.
