Abstract/Summary:
There is a growing need for organizations to increase creativity and innovation in the United States. In spite of spending huge sums on research and development, Business Week reported that most corporations have a dismally low success rate of 4.5% of innovation productivity and 96% of all new projects fail to meet their target for return on investment. The creativity process of reaching conclusions on important business matters deals with imprecision. The current practices are not satisfactory for making truly informed creative decisions. Hence, the proposed research is to develop a new method for reaching creative decisions within a group through a facilitator and a process of controlled interaction. This new method will be based on previous research, experiments and methods for creative idea generation. The new method proposed known as Map of Creativity will be used to reach a creative decision within a group.Map of Creativity is a process involving a controlled--interactive group making a decision through facilitation. The facilitator sorts the ideas based on degrees of uniqueness using a fuzzy sorter. The facilitator then redirects ideas back to the group. Group members re--evaluate ideas and make new suggestions, which a fuzzy automated evaluator will eventually review. Based on the group--regenerated ideas, the fuzzy automated evaluator will determine four different types of solutions, such as, problem solving, creative solution, truly creative solution and no solution. In other words, fuzzy decision making will be used to emulate key elements of the human thinking process when seeking solutions to complex problems.
