| This dissertation presents an example of effective urban school leader. The purpose of this study is to further define a developed set of criteria for successful leaders at current educational settings. The competencies previously identified in other studies include challenging the process, inspiring others in a shared vision, enlisting the support of others and enabling them to act, setting an example, and encouraging the heart of others. This dissertation argues that along with those five competencies a greater focus should be placed upon instructional leadership and an additional competency added which focuses on business practices of total quality management. |
