Abstract/Summary:
It is proposed to use process simulation package to critically examine the potential process and procedure modifications in order to minimize flaring during Start-up/Shut-down/Up-set of chemical process plant.; The study will require setting up a process simulation and verify the simulation results with plant simulation data. After, steady state simulation has been achieved the next step will start. The next step is to convert this simulation into dynamic simulation. The dynamic inputs from the process and the control schemes will be introduced in the model. In order to minimize flaring, the dynamic process simulation is used to simulate the start-up and shutdown procedures, with possible recycles of the streams that are sent to the flare traditionally. The process simulation is based on first principles and therefore the technology developed in this project is applicable in general and is not limited to one particular plant or process. The use of these simulations in the control room will provide the guidelines for the prediction and direction of the control and other actions to be taken by the operations staff and engineers.; The process simulation is a cost-effective approach for identifying pollution prevention opportunities. The benefits from this project are not only for environment and society (less flaring and ozone violations) but also for economics and sustainability (save raw material and energy).
