| In this dissertation I discuss Jean Gebser's five structures of consciousness from three perspectives: the intellectual, the experiential, and the spiritual. This discussion is designed to address the central question of this dissertation: How do we embody integral consciousness? In order to truly experience what the integral structure of consciousness is, Gebser puts forth the requirement that we must delve into our own consciousness structures and make them transparent to our understanding. Using self-inquiry, I provide first hand phenomenological descriptions of each of the structures. I also introduce perspectives taken from the Seth material that places Gebser's theories within the framework of those ideas. In the end my aim is to present a sound academic investigation which includes a personal journey of discovery through the structures of consciousness that reveals our intimate relationship with the universe. |
