Abstract/Summary:
Although there is data available studying the Internet and privacy issues of the general population, few studies have specifically targeted senior citizens. A survey of Southwestern Pennsylvania senior citizens was conducted regarding feelings and attitudes toward privacy with a special emphasis on the use of the Internet. Quantitative analysis was used to determine the reliability of the collected data. The finding concluded that, demographics (age, gender, education level, marital status and income) did not influence the senior's attitude regarding privacy. To overcome some of the bias and privacy concerns the seniors have regarding privacy and the Internet, recommendations were made to identify methods for educating seniors and providing opportunities for the senior to better understand the benefits of the Internet while protecting their privacy.
