Abstract/Summary:
In this study, the age of sexual abuse onset was explored to see if it correlates with greater psychopathology symptoms in male victims. Thirteen MCMI-III profile reports of adult males who experienced a sexual abuse onset at the age of 10 or younger, were compared to thirteen MCMI-III profile reports of adult males who had a sexual abuse onset between the ages of 13 to 17. Base rate scores of six scales on the MCMI-III (Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression, Alcohol Dependence, and Drug Dependence) were used in this study to compare the effects of sexual abuse on psychopathology between the two groups of men. Results indicated that men who were first sexually abused before puberty showed significantly greater Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms than men who were first sexually abused during puberty. No significant differences between the two groups were found on the other scales.
