Abstract/Summary:
This study was a comparison of the achievement of third-grade students with disabilities (SWDs), Limited English Proficient (LEP) students, and their nondisabled peers on the 2007--2008 Georgia Criterion-Referenced Competency Test in math and English. This study was conducted through a quantitative comparative descriptive research design using a one-way between-subjects MANOVA and archival data from the website of the state of Georgia's Governor's Office of Student Achievement. This study included scores from the elementary schools of seven districts in the state of Georgia and served to identify the differences in student performance while determining additional instructional methods and strategies needed for school districts to assist in meeting the Adequate Yearly Progress requirements. This study showed that there was significant difference in the performance of the student groups. The nondisabled students outperformed both the SWDs and LEP students. In each test the nondisabled student group scored significantly higher than the SWDs and LEP student groups. The study indicated that the performance was attributed to the students' group and that the SWD group had a significant difference.
