Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the study was to determine the competencies that are most important when hiring, promoting, and designing position descriptions for strategic project managers. The five most important competencies identified are (a) trustworthiness, and the ability to (b) develop a schedule, (c) determine project goals, (d) determine project deliverables, and (e) communicate project status. These competencies can be used in the development of interview questions during the hiring process, embodied in an assessment for promoting strategic project managers, and included in a position description to help an employer establish measurable performance criteria for the strategic project manager position. This study offers information to anyone who wants to further organizational knowledge on competencies for strategic project managers.
