Abstract/Summary:
This study examines attentional and impulsivity factors in recreational pilots. Part I, an exploratory study involved a random sample of 1150 pilots. Part II of this study involved a convenience sample of 21 recreational/private pilots from a flying club. For Part I, a secondary statistical analysis was performed, examining attentional fluctuation, Impulsivity, Time Pressure, Stress, Total Hours flown and Military training. As expected pilots with more attentional fluctuation, stress/anxiety, and Military training, had less hazardous events, incidents and accidents. Part II, recreational pilots in this research project were given the Conners' Continuous Performance Test II and the Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scales self report. Part II of the research showed the presence of more attentional fluctuation and impulsivity issues among the flying club pilots than would be expected in the general population.
