Broad application of computers in gear research inspired development of enhanced computer programs for design, manufacture and simulation of meshing of gears.; New types of worm-gear drives with modified geometry have been developed to obtain a localized bearing contact and a parabolic function of transmission errors. Localization of contact allows to avoid edge contact and reduce the shift of bearing contact caused by errors of alignment. A parabolic function of transmission errors enables to reduce vibration and noise of the gear drive. Localization of contact and transformation of the shape of function of transmission errors are achieved by double crowning of the worm.; An integrated TCA (Tooth Contact Analysis) computer program for simulation of meshing and contact is proposed. Such programs are written in Java and Visual Basic languages and are based on simultaneous combination of numerical computation and graphic interpretation of the obtained numerical results.
