Abstract/Summary:
The main objective of this research is to make contributions towards the construction of optimal model building strategies for accurate and efficient part building for sculptured surface model by suggesting and developing new methods for open-ended problems in adaptive slicing method and support structure generation.; For adaptive slicing method, layer classification according to their type was introduced. And based on this classification type, appropriate procedures for adaptive slicing were developed in order to obtain the fewest number of layers while maintaining the required error tolerance. The proposed adaptive slicing method generated fewer number of layers than the uniform slicing method but attained an unacceptable machining tolerance. The effectiveness of the proposed method was demonstrated through simulation study.; For the support structure generation, three important factors which affects the support generation were suggested to obtain appropriate generated support structure volume. And the effects of these factors are tested and the results are also shown through simulation study.
