Abstract/Summary:
The World Health Organization's vision for health and research is complicated by the demographic revolution taking place all over the world. The condition of global aging and health is in too dire of a state to continue with the routine response. It is time to seriously consider an all encompassing framework that considers implications for all stages of life and for society as a whole. Moving through life towards a healthy, independent and active older age is a challenge facing each of us and a responsibility for all of us. The current resource allocation specifically on behalf of the older population may limit the overall resources available for subsequent generations in terms of maintaining physical and mental health as well as the overall quality of life of future societies.;In response, this study employed a phenomenologic method of inquiry to explore everyday stress and coping with participants 60 to 85 years of age. The Giorgi method of analysis yielded six themes or Universal Design Coping Principles to proactively manage daily stress. It is premature to promote Universal Design Coping Principles as an effective strategy to lessen the impact of everyday stress on health yet it is time to research an alternative approach in handling everyday stress. People will need to understand that the choices they are making earlier in their lives will affect the quality of their lives throughout their life course. The practical application of these principles, through the early education of young members of society may ultimately conserve valuable resources and improve overall population health.
