In recent years, with social tempo quickening and competition turning fierce , people face more and more stress ,so do the middle school students. Especially the senior high school students are at a critical stage of physical and psychological development, facing the high pressure of college entrance examination, so it is a stage that psychological conflicts and emotional,behavioral problems occur frequently .many investigations show that the mental health of Chinese senior high school students is worriable, so we have enough reason to focus on the mental health of senior high school students and the factors affecting the mental health. Many relevant studies both home and abroad have shown that coping is an important factor which influence mental health and coordinate stress and its response, as well as taking an active and positive role in keeping the mental health. Therefore, the concentration and study on coping , should arouse people's attention, especially we educators, who are cultivating harmonious and mental healthy talent. So this thesis make a study on senior high school students' coping styles,mental health and their relationship, the purpose is to explore the characteristics of the senior high school students' coping styles and its relationship with mental health. At present most of the domestic studies on coping are based on general stress situation or from an angel of trait—oriented approach .so Basing on the former studies, this study combined the general phenomena and specific phenomena, consider the two stressful situations closely related to high school students, namely failure in exam and intense interpersonal relationship, delving into the coping in three distinct situations, that is, general stressful situations, exam failure stressful situation , intense interpersonal stressful situation, studied the coping from three perspectives. This study adopts approach of questionnaire by using the coping style scale of middle school students, self—compiled two coping style scale in two concrete stressful situations and SCL—90 scale , 487 students from three ordinary high schools of Puyang, Henan Province were involved to answer the questionnaire, the results are shown in the following:1.The senior high school students in stressful situations mainly adopt the means of problem solving to cope, which is a active coping style. The coping activity ofthe individual in distinct stressful situation shows significant differences, as well as showing certain consistency. This shows coping is a consequence of the transaction between individual and concrete situation. 2.The mental health of the senior high school students varies with sex. As compared with girls, the mental health status of boys is better. The senior High school students' mental health also differs with the variation of grades. Generally speaking ,the higher grade a student is in , the worse his mental health is, the students in grade 3 specially show prominent symptom. The mental health status of students from urban area is much better than that of students from rural area.3.The senior high school students' coping styles are the important factors affecting their mental health, individual adopts different coping styles maybe result in different psychological problems. Coping styles' affection on mental health is different in distinct stressful situation, each coping style has its different effect in distinct stressful situation. Meanwhile, the students' mental health ,in return, influence their choice and application , the worse group adopts positive coping styles more than the better group.This study can help us understand not only the coping characteristics of the seniorhigh school students but also the relationship between the coping styles and their mental health more thoroughly ,more profoundly .
