Abstract/Summary:
The measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in the scattering of electrons from the deuteron at a momentum transfer of 0.1 (GeV/c) 2 and average scattering angle of 145° is described in this work. It is measured to be Ad=-7.95±0.73±0.62 ppm. This asymmetry can be related to the isovector axial form factor of the nucleon as well as the strange quark contribution to the magnetic form factor of the nucleon. When combined with a previous measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in the elastic scattering of electrons from protons, this measurement allows the experimental determination of the strange quark form factor, GsM=0.28±0.35±0.39± 0.03n.m. and the isovector axial form factor of the proton, GeAT=1 =-0.66±0.57±0.50±0.12 at the momentum transfer of the experiment. The updated analysis of the experiment presented here puts the measurement of GeA (T = 1) into agreement with the theoretical prediction, in contrast with a previous publication.
