| One of the basic human activities is communication. In this context television has emerged as the most powerful mass media over the last decade. It has invaded almost every household with news and views with the help of satellite cable - projecting them through a global filter. At the local level, regional channels with their regional language generally influence public and hereby help to focus public opinion. Guwahati, the capital city of Assam alone publishes daily newspapers in Assamese, Hindi and English languages. Almost every small township of the state run several cinema halls where rural people provide the major clients. Radio as a sound media and TV audio-visual media play an important role in disseminating information throughout the state. The only Indian Television Network is Doordarshan and it is the largest broadcasting organisation in the world. The Government of India launched its Television/Doordarshan in September 1959 in Delhi and the first experiment with satellite technology in India was Satellite Instructional Television Experiment conducted in 1975 - 1976. Doordarshan covers Educational TV, Information programmes, Sports, Entertainment, Teletext, Social Advertising, Marketing, Audience Research, Commercial service, Metro Channel, Regional Language Channels, Transmission Hours, Programme output and viewership. It came to North East India during Asiad in 1982. LPT(Low Power Transmitter)Guwahati started on November, 1982. H.P.T.(High Power Transmitter) was established in Guwahati on March 24, 1985. News in Assamese(daily) and Regional Programmes started on March 24, 1985 which covered only 100 K. M. sorroundings. North East Programme Production Centre(PPC) started on 1st January, 1990 for the North East Service for all parts of North-East. Regional Language Satellite Service Programmes are all programmes of Regional Service, Feature Films, Film Songs, Serials - Sitcoms (commissioned, Sponsored), Classical, Light and Folk music and dance and General information programmes. The present research work has the objectives like, to investigate and analyse the organisational, administrative and managerial dimensions of the Regional Language Satellite Service; to study the problem faced by the system; to assess the conditions of service of the personnel involved in the service; to highlight the impact of the service on the social life of the region; to evaluate the economic and political implications of the service.
