Abstract/Summary: | |
After theorizing a new way to understand the strategic organization of Asian American political interests, I argue that an organized Asian American political coalition will be unlikely to achieve its aims through party politics. Asian American political interests are far more likely to find success searching for congressional power via interest group politics rather than empowerment through party politics. I find evidence supporting my arguments primarily through two case studies: the campaign finance controversy following the 1996 general election and the politics of the racial categories of the U.S. decennial census. |
