This study aimed at investigating an all-inclusive South African National Culture based on Hofstede's five cultural dimensions---Power Distance, Masculinity/femininity, Individualism/collectivism, Uncertainty Avoidance, Long-term/short term Orientation. Hofstede's seminal work included South Africa but his study focused on White English speakers only to the exclusion of Blacks, Asians, Coloreds, and non-English speaking Whites. The study succeeded in its primary aim.;The existence of distinct sub-cultures in South Africa is well documented. This study demonstrated the existence of significant differences between the five main race groups---Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Coloreds---on the aforementioned cultural dimensions consistent with their sub-cultures. The implications of these findings impact business and management decisions, communication, motivation, discipline, and marketing efforts. They also impact diversity sensitivity programs.;Future research opportunities were also identified---relationships with economic indicators, impact of education, age, gender, and job category. The need to investigate the impact of sub-groups within Blacks, Whites, Asians, and Coloreds was also identified. |
