Abstract/Summary:
Job satisfaction of college faculty members has been examined in many different disciplines; however, the field of exercise science has appears not to have been researched. The intent of this dissertation was to examine the overall level of job satisfaction and determine if there was a difference in job satisfaction between exercise science and non-exercise science faculty members and also between two intrinsic factors (achievement and growth) and three extrinsic factors (interpersonal relations, salary, and working conditions). This study examined 28 exercise science and non-exercise science faculty members who completed the Faculty Satisfaction/Dissatisfaction Scale. The results failed to show a significant difference in the overall job satisfaction between the two disciplines. However, there were many significant correlations between overall job satisfaction and both intrinsic and extrinsic factors for both disciplines as well as for the variables of gender and tenure status.
