The University of Science and Technology has been holding an important positionin Chinese high education system, and the Research University of Science andTechnology is the priority over others. Since1970s, to adapt to the needs of thedevelopment of science and technology and intrinsic request of education evolution, theResearch Universities of Science and Technology began to transform to comprehensiveuniversities. After more than30years of construction, humanities and social sciencedisciplines in these universities have developed rapidly and gained a lot ofachievements, but their overall situation is still not very well. The strong position of thescience and engineering easily shields the development of human science, whichleading to the incompatible development of human science and nature science. In turn,The weakness of human science further restricts the development of the ResearchUniversities of Science and Technology in our country and the improvement ofstudents’ comprehensive quality. That the development environment of the ResearchUniversities of Science and Technology for human science is not suitable is the mainreason, which is reflected in the existence and development status of human sciencefaculties, which is not good generally.Job satisfaction is an important indicator to embody the university effectivenessand faculties’ existence and development status. This research took human sciencefaculties’ job satisfaction as its entry. Basing on the Double-Factor Theory and theConflict Theory, the researcher chose a typical research university of science andtechnology-H university to survey on the human science faculties by using theself-designed “Job satisfaction questionnaire for the human science faculties of theResearch Universities of Science and Technology”. The survey contained four aspects:population variables, professional variables, environment variables and particularvariables. By using the SPSS13.0to analyse the data, we can get the followingconclusion:(1) The overall average score of the job satisfaction of H university human sciencefaculties is significantly higher than the theoretical neutral value, but significantly less than comparely satisfactory theory score. So the job satisfaction degree of H Liberal artsteacher is not high.(2) The division of two factor categories in Herzberg’s Double-factor Theoryapplys to the human science faculties of the Research Universities of Science andTechnology in our country.(3) Not all personal background variables can significantly influence humanscience faculties’ job satisfaction in the Research Universities of Science andTechnology. Among population variables, the differences of gender and age havesignificant influence to the job satisfaction of H university human science faculties.Male human science faculties’ job satisfaction is higher than that of female humanscience faculties, especially in the sense of achievement and the job autonomy; As thegrowth of the age, human science faculties’ job satisfaction is “U”shaped.Among professional variables, the differences of teaching years, overseaseducation background and subject category have significant influence to the jobsatisfaction of H university human science faculties. Similar to the age, as the growth ofthe teaching years, arts faculties’ job satisfaction is also “U” shaped; Teachers Withoverseas education background have higher job satisfaction; human science faculties of“hard subject”disciplines, such as economics, or management have higher jobsatisfaction than those of “soft subjects”, such as history, philosophy and education, especially in the aspects of leadership and management and organization atmospheres.(4) Five environment variables all have significant influence to the job satisfactionof human science faculties in the Research Universities of Science and Technology, andthe leadership and management is the most significant factor.(5)The human science faculties of H university are content with the sense of workachievement and approval, interpersonal relationship, job autonomy and professionalreputation; In contrast, Their most unsatisfactory aspects are as follow: the schoolacademic atmosphere lacks the humanity culture, the status of liberal arts in theuniversity is not high, the resource allocation and assessment system for human sciencefaculties are unfair and unreasonable, human science faculties are lack of discoursepower, their salary and benefits are too low. Obviously, the human science faculties of the Research Universities of Science andTechnology are suffering a realistic conflict in their career. The Conflict Theory help usto analyse the conflict in three ways: conflict forming basis, the apparent presences ofthe conflict, the deep reasons of the conflict. At last, some effective ways to transformthe conflict were put forward to provide the univerisity management and relevantadministrative departments with theory basis and the realistic foundation to formulaterelevant policies and regulations scientifically and reasonably.
