Abstract/Summary:
This study was designed to elicit from the population of business librarians in college and university libraries, including community colleges, four-year colleges, and research universities' libraries in the United States, information about their recruitment, education, and careers. This study attempted to define the population by documenting characteristics related to undergraduate and graduate educational backgrounds, demographic characteristics, career paths, and current job responsibilities. In addition, this study addressed prior work experience in business or internships in business librarianship, the level of participation in professional associations and college/university committee activities, the number and type of scholarly presentations and publications, and the extent to which various factors have had an impact on the respondents' decisions to be recruited into the academic business library specialty.
