Abstract/Summary:
he purpose of this study is to estimate the regional economic benefits associated with the modernization of locks and dam at J. T. Myers. An economic input-output model (IMPLAN) was utilized to calculate the economic impact on the fourteen counties surrounding the project site. IMPLAN estimated production, income, and employment changes in the study area as a result of a shock to the economic system. The shock in the J. T. Myers locks and dam project is the construction to modernize the locks and dam. Using IMPLAN, this study investigated the ripple effects of the initial investment on the local economy. The ripple effects are reported as indirect and induced effects on income, employment, value-added, total output, and taxes.
