| Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone (here in after refers to as WFTZ) was approved by the State Council in 1990. It is the earliest founded and most mature Free Trade Zone in our country. During 15 years, it has been keeping high-speed development as a rate of over 20-50% every year, and it has made great progress in economic development, function exploitation, industries' upgrade, and service optimization. It has become a very important development zone in Shanghai and even the Yangtze River Delta Area. It plays an enormous pushing role to the development of Shanghai and its peripheral cities.This dissertation has made some theoretical research and analytic demonstration for WFTZ's regional economic effect as follows:1. General situation of the development of free trade zone. This part summarizes current situation of all free trade zones in our country and the function of WFTZ.2. Theoretical foundation about how FTZ promotes regional economic development, which revolves theories of regional economic growth and theory of regional predominance.3. WFTZ's regional economic effect. Through analysis about WFTZ's regional predominance and comparative analysis of WFTZ, Jinqiao Export Processing Zone, Zhangjiang Park in Pudong district and Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone, Ningbo Free Trade Zone in Yangtze River Delta Area, a result can be found: WFTZ is a growth pole in this region. And analysis about WFTZ's contribution to economic development of shanghais and Yangtze River Delta Area can be seen in this part, including qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis.4. How to exert WFTZ's regional effect further.
