Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated the relationship between goal interdependence and cell team interactions, attitudes, and work outcomes at Automotive Products (USA), as a result of the implementation of manufacturing cells. Two questionnaires among line workers, supervisors, and managers were utilized. The results supported the proposition that interactions and attitudes of workers are dependent in part on goal interdependence, but work outcomes are not seen as related to goal interdependence, at least as viewed by supervisors. The theory of cooperation, which was used as the basis for this study, was useful for understanding cell team interactions and relationships. A number of social factors and implications also surfaced: conflict-resolution, communication, group composition, and interpersonal skills.
