Abstract/Summary:
The problem investigated in this study was to determine the relationship between empowerment and job satisfaction/dissatisfaction in organizational climates. It was theorized that the variables of empowerment and job satisfaction/ dissatisfaction interact in ways that could be meaningful to educational institutions.;Participants of the study were 116 instructor pilots from U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Fleet Replacement Squadrons. The Employee Empowerment Questionnaire (EEQ) was administered to determine empowerment levels. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) was administered to determine levels of job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction.;Evidence of motivators and hygienes was found, as was evidence of moderate levels of empowerment. Linear correlations and multiple regression showed clear relationships between the constructs. Specifically, the findings showed that for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps instructor pilots job satisfaction is strongly related to empowerment. The findings also showed that intrinsic job satisfaction is more closely related to empowerment than is extrinsic job satisfaction.
